Road Trip!!!

On Monday we went on a road trip to place we have never been.

Along for the ride were the four of us and cousin Melissa.

Heading up the 102 we took the Shubenacadie exit and drove along the Shubenacadie River up to Maitland. Alot of farms and rolling hills in this area, it was quite a nice drive. Maria got to see sheep, cows, horses, birds, more cows, more horses and some road kill. Mel got to see her first raccoon (they don't have them in Alberta) she took a picture for memory's sake. It was 'sleeping' she managed to avoid the internals on the picture...yuck!

In Maitland we were hoping to have lunch but the only thing there was a ma and pop grocery shop. Iffy looking on the outside but friendly folk on the inside, we bought a couple of drinks and some candy, asked the lady for a microwave to heat up the bottle, she said she had one in the house and would be right back. That's small town service! They told us of a few places to eat, all a little ways from here. We decided to head to our destination first and then grab some food.

Burntcoat Head Lighthouse. Wow, windy, gorgeous views. Lighthouse was closed but the tide was out so we walked the ocean floor and took it all in.

On the way home we stopped in Kennetcook, had lunch at the Cafe and Eatery. and across the street Martin found an Antique-hobby place of sorts. The old guy there was excited to show us his stuff, Martin had a great time, we all did. A few big old steam engines salvaged out of various mills, at least 15 or 20 International Tractors. The guy there turned on things for us, and when he found out that we were interested, he showed us his other huge barn full of steam tools, like wood saws, lathes, drill presses and grain mills. All attached to big belts, and because it was a private collection, we got up close to see it all working! Very cool and best of all, free. Mel has all the inside pictures, so we'll have to show them later...

We headed home down the 354, another curvy, hilly ride with awesome colors and views. The girls even managed to fall asleep for a bit. Difficult considering daddy was back there to play with!

Here's hoping for more adventures next time!
