camping...finally!

OK, you don't know this from reading, but I've been writing a huge blog that just got erased, and then auto saved after it erased. So we'll see if I can remember all the things I was writing... sigh.
Well, we just got back from a big camping weekend. We gave Naomi (I think) a book about 2 girl's trip out east, and one of the stops was a campsite by the sea. From our knowledge of the area, we're pretty sure it was Graves Island Provincial Park. It came recommended to me from an acquaintance at work, and I've been wanting to go see it.

We went with some so far childless friends of ours, Justin and Catherine, who love hanging out with Maria and Nicole, and by circumstance, us. I hope we didn't scare then into a few more years of no kids...
The park is quite nice. No sandy beach really, but seriously, who swims in the ocean around here? C'mon! It's freezing! We booked a little late for choice of sites, but the one Emily picked was one of the nicest in the park. There were only a few other tent sites that would have been better, and even those would have been cold if the wind picked up! We were on a flat part on the side of a hill, with a few apple trees for shade and some bushes for privacy. We enjoyed the view so much, we forgot to take pictures! It is a really good place for visitors coming to see the area. A short drive to Halifax, and nice scenic drive to Peggy's cove one way, and another scenic drive to Chester, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg the other way.
We arrived Friday to set up, it took most of the afternoon to pack our car with all the stuff needed for camping with little girls. Now that I have a hitch on the car, we are really going to start looking for a trailer!
Setting up camp

Apparently Maria's dolly needed a change too..
All smiles when she's getting fed!

Of course you eat English muffins with a fork! Don't you?

I don't know what Justin was looking at, but Nicole sure thought he was looking funny!
Maria enjoying a good book (about life on the farm)
Saturday morning after Nicole's nap, we went out to a small farmers market in Hubbards. We had a nice snack of delicious lattes and muffins, and then a scenic drive back to the campground along the ocean.

An ocean side stop for the view

Nicole, enjoying a bottle.

Maria not enjoying the water on her toes.
Saturday afternoon Justin and Catherine went out while the girls napped, and we sat and read a book. Maybe that doesn't sound like much to you, but it's quite a sophisticated feat of nap engineering to make that happen! And we quite enjoyed every bit of it! Dinner was accented by a glass of wine from the Lunenburg Vineyard. My mom was wondering where we got the fruit wine we brought last year for Christmas, and I remembered then that, that was where it came from. So next time she comes out, I'll have to press a little harder for a trip to Lunenburg!
And evening of boccie ball and campfire (which the girls had to come and enjoy of course!), and our day was complete!
Emily and Maria seeing who's more flexible.
Taking time to relax by fire.
Nicole was quite intrigued by the fire as well!
Sunday morning Catherine went running, she's training for a marathon, and had to do 26km on the weekend. Not exactly our style of relaxation, so we engineered a dual nap-a-thon, and read our books again!
Nicole being all big girlish and sitting by herself.
Maria being helpful with the cleaning (and stylin' with Mommies hat!)
A nice walk to the antiques store just outside the park and it was time to have lunch and clean up for home. We took the seaside drive home so the girls (all 3) could sleep a little from all the fresh air and excitement, And I was entertained by the views, and thoughts of buying a nice oceanfront fixer-upper.
So tomorrow I start working on our house as I frantically try to get things done before our trip to my parents later this week, but for now, I hope you've enjoyed the pictures of our weekend!
